An Exciting Announcement:

The OSDMS has enjoyed a long line of dedicated and proficient executive directors. After a thorough search and many worthy candidates we are pleased to announce the appointment of our newest executive director, Debbie Havill. As many of you are aware, Debbie was a founding member of the Ontario Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Over the past 28 years, she has served in many different roles in relation to the society including president of the society twice. In addition to volunteering with the society, Debbie has had many experiences within the sonographic community including technical, teaching, administrative and research roles over the span of her career. It is the belief of the OSDMS board of directors that this breadth of experience puts Debbie in an ideal position to steer our society forward. Debbie will transition into the role of executive director under the guidance of our out going executive director, Denis Poulin. We anticipate Debbie to take on the role fully as of September 1st, 2009. I encourage all of you to watch this website (www.osdms.org) as changes in our head office will be announced here first.

Please join us in welcoming Debbie as we move our society into this exciting new era.

Respectfully Submitted, Kim Jozkow BSc RDMS RDCS RVT, President OSDMS

Urgent Notice

Dear OSDMS members,

As many of you are likely aware the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care has released the report from Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) with regards to registered nurses in the extended class (nurse practitioners) and a review of their request for an extended scope of practice.

This document has been found by the OSDMS to be unclear and confusing in relation to the application of sound waves for the purpose of diagnosis. In particular we refer you to the recommendation from page 90...

About Us

About Us

OSDMS - Who are we?
In 1981,seven sonographers collaborated to establish the Ontario Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (OSDMS). Today the OSDMS represents close to 1000 sonographers practicing in the general, cardiac and vascular ultrasound specialties. The main objective of the society is to provide an information network for sonographers in order to advance their knowledge in the modality and related professional issues. The society promotes continuing education through newsletters, meetings and conferences at which sonographers can accumulate Continuing Medical Education credits.

As a society, the OSDMS encourages each member to share the pursuit of common goals and address occupational challenges by becoming actively involved with any aspect of the society, whether as a member of the Board of Directors or by responding to any decisions made within the society. Our Board of Directors welcomes your comments and ideas. Only through your feedback and involvement will our society grow and prosper.
